A Whole New World: Best P-Day EVER!

Not serving very close to the city of Rochester, I've never been in the actual city my whole mission is named after. My district was able to get permission to travel up to "Rock City" with our Ward Mission Leader and his family to spend our preparation day (P-day). We all got in a van and headed up for a day of fun.

Rochester has these old subway tunnels that are no longer in use and are now filled with crazy graffiti art. The creepiest part about going to the tunnels was the unstable, rusty ladder we had we had to climb down to get there. But no worries, we all made it safely. As we looked around, we actually found graffiti that past missionairies (on missions, after missions, and just visiting we don't know) sprayed our mission initials "NYRM".

After exploring the tunnels, we went to High Falls and saw buildings where they had filmed parts of the new Spiderman movie.

The the big finale . . . we went to Nick Tahoe's (a restaurant) to have a Rochester special, the original "Garbage Plate". Dad (Rolland) had warned me about it from his college days at University of Rochester. If you ever go to Rochester, you NEED to have a Garbage Plate because it is a famous Rochester tradition. But if you don't go there or don't need to eat one, don't eat it. Basically the Garbage Plate consists of a mac salad, thick cut fries, tater tots, potato salad, a hamburger patty or hot dog or both, scraped off meat from the pan they cooked in the kitchen, and so much grease that turns into little orange ball things on your plate. It's nasty but you're supposed to have one when you go to Rochester, so we did. On the plus side, they do give you two pieces of bread so that you can space out the mess on your plate. Everyone in our district finished a Garbage Plate and I testify that you definately need the bread to hold everything down.
